Background Story
Kate and Joseph had dated from when Kate was 16, Joseph 17. When they were 18 and 19 respectively, Kate was pregnant with Cheryl. She had decided to keep the baby, and Joseph proposed on the spot.
And that's when it started to go downhill. By the time Cheryl was four, Kate and Joseph had divorced. Since they had joint custody, Cheryl would spend weekends at her dad's, and would sometimes go to the police station after school.
Since Kate was a secretary at the hospital, she befriended the Azarias, who had a daughter named Matthew. Matthew and Cheryl became close friends.
When Cheryl was eight, Kate remarried to Vincent Tavor, mostly because she wanted Cheryl to have two parental figures at home... And it ended up being the worst decision of her life. Vincent turned out to be physically and verbally abusive. Kate was honestly too scared to divorce him, and ended up having two kids with him when Cheryl was twelve- twins named Beck and Oliver.
Vincent didn't bother Beck and Oliver (except the occasional bit at Oliver), but since he saw Cheryl as the remnants of Joseph, he sought out to hit her and worse whenever he could. When it got bad, Matthew would pick her up and go to her house, where she'd help clean up any cuts and bruises.
In high school, neither Cheryl or Matthew were popular. Not even close. Cheryl was picked on a lot by others, mostly because of the distance she put between herself and others. Matthew came out to her when she was fifteen, and they started to date a year later.
Kate, Joseph, Michael, and Matthew's parents were all fine with it (although Joseph and Michael were a little awkward about it), Vincent absolutely was not, which lead to quite a few problems.
When she was seventeen, Joseph had been working on a serial killer's case for awhile... Who rather liked redheads. He mostly went for women in their twenties, so he thought Cheryl would be safe, but after he said some not-too-nice things about him on the news, he realized what he'd done a little too late. First, it was just a car following Cheryl home from school, all the way up to him trying to kidnap her when she was taking out the trash. After that, he wouldn't let her be on her own at all until they caught him.
One night, Vincent was out of town, and Kate had to go to a play at the twins' school, so Cheryl had to promise to call Matthew to be over. She did, and left the back door unlocked like she usually would for her. Since it would take her about a half an hour to come over, Cheryl went to go shower. But when she'd finished and went back to the room, he was standing inside of it, going through her music collection. She of course ran to go call her dad or Michael, but he was able to knock her out by the time they picked up. By the time she woke up, she was in a dog crate in a basement somewhere with her hands duct taped together. She spent a week there, drugged with medical-grade heroine to keep her calm and quiet. Wyatt St.Cole (the serial killer) used her to get to Joseph, and determine what information they had on him and what they were missing. By then, the FBI had been brought in as well, causing him even more problems. After ten broken fingers and getting as much information as he could, Wyatt decided it was time to dispose of her. So he taped her into a car he stole, hooked up the exhaust to the inside of the car, and slit her wrists open to be thorough, along with cutting a keyhole-shape right below her collarbone, and cut off a chunk of hair for a 'keepsake'. He also made sure to leave her cell phone with her, while on a call with her dad.
Charlotte Quinn, the FBI agent who had been working on the case with the Scarlett Police Department, barely got there on time with an ambulance, but she barely made it after being in a coma for a week. For the next two weeks that she spent in the hospital, she was under constant police protection, as Wyatt had gotten away before they got to the scene. Even so, just in case, Michael gave her one of his guns, which she hid under her pillow.
By the end of the first week she was conscious, he'd located her hospital room. He sneaked into the hospital, 'borrowed' some scrubs from a storage closet, and went into her hospital room late at night. Since he looked like hospital staff, he was let in, and he locked the door behind him. When he got over to her bed, she was half asleep. First, he found the bag her parents brought for her, and buried a bag of lower-grade heroine in the inner zipper pocket- just in case. If it turned out he couldn't end her life, he might as well ruin it. He went over to her IV, and injected some of his remaining heroine, and instantly awoke when she felt the effects, yet drowsily. He talked to her quietly for a few minutes, before taking off the bandages and cutting out the stitches on her left arm. When he went for the other, she grabbed the gun from under her pillow, and aimed it at him, turning off the safety. As he tried to approach her, she instantly pulled the trigger, hitting him around the shoulder.
Shocked by the sound, Joseph, Michael, and Kate ran to the room, which Kate unlocked and burst in. Although they'd honestly would have rather had him just die, they got Wyatt onto a stretcher to go to surgery, and Michael left to get a nurse who could stitch Cheryl's arm back up.
Joseph and Kate began fighting, Kate blaming him for the situation, and freaking out over where Cheryl got the gun. By the time Michael came back with the nurse, Charlotte had come with. While they were fighting, Cheryl had cornered herself on her bed, still clutching the gun. Charlotte began lecturing Joseph and Kate, pointing out how Cheryl wasn't to happy at the moment. Michael persuaded her into letting go of it, and then explained why he'd given it to her, and how it was a good idea to do so.
After she was released from the hospital, Cheryl was still rather injured, so she dropped out of school. She spent her days resting at home, going to therapy, and, thanks to Wyatt, heroine. She wanted to tell someone, but was afraid of her dad losing his job.
At age twenty-two, she was diagnosed with schizophrenia, which ran in Kate's family. Also, Michael (who ran the drug unit at the time) picked her up after finding her in an abandoned factory known for heroin users. He then made her talk to Joseph and Matthew (they were living together and still dating), who took her to the mental hospital section of where the Azarias and Kate worked. She took an extended vacation for two months, in which it took ten days to detox from any and all heroin, and then the extra time to help her deal with the mental addiction and her schizophrenia.
When she was free from her mental addiction, she was got into this famous cooking academy Joseph told her that he thought it would be good for her. She got through it, and climbed her way up and graduated as a professional chef.
And she decided to start a new life, She moved to a new city called Retroville City.
One night when Cheryl was walking down the road, Joseph called her and said that she must go to the FSI. He said that she'll be recruited as an agent there. Actually Charlotte, the FBI agent wants her but she already left the town so she decided to contact her partner, telling her the whole story that even after all she had been through, her mental and physic was even stronger.
When morning came, she got a message that she was recruited as a field agent there.
